So I got a tattoo when I was 18, but lately I've been wondering if it's appropriative? :( It's a song lyric by the Chilean singer Violeta Parra, "Gracias a la vida que me ha dado tanto." Her music got me through trauma/abuse I was experiencing age 15-17 and continues to encourage me today. I got it when I was 18, a few months into being on my own, as a symbol of my newfound freedom & survival, and to remind myself of the beauty & potential of life when I get down. Thanks in advance!
I’m really not too sure! I’m super white, so I’m not always great at knowing what is/isn’t appropriative. Just judging by the lyrics, I personally wouldn’t say that it’s appropriative BUT that doesn’t mean I’m right since I’m not Chilean. If any of my followers have any input, reply to this post!
